Local rules, golf etiquette and care of course information
GGC Local rules (as per card).
• Preferred lies: 30cm no nearer the flag on the closely mown areas of the hole in play.
• Sand Greens: Ball on edge of green: If grass interferes with backswing, relief may be taken, without penalty, directly back onto fairway.
• Out of Bounds: Holes: 1,2,3,4,5 and 9 sealed roads are boundary line.
• Ruts made by vehicles: Through the green. Vehicle tracks are GUR. Relief as per Rule 25.1b.
• Buggies: Must not be dragged across greens or tees.
• Groups: Not more than 4 players in each group.
• Stake trees: (free drop 2 club lengths, nearest point of relief).
• Ground under repair: (free drop - nearest point of relief).
• Hit a provisional: if you believe your ball is in the rough.
• Lost balls: (Three minutes to search).
New Local E-5: TWO Penalty Strokes A player may instead of playing a provisional ball , walk to where he hit his shot and begin searching for his ball. If he and his playing partners cannot find it within the R&A’s 3-minute timeline, then he may, after confirming point of entry with his playing partner, take a drop (1 club length on the fairway, from point of entry in line with the flag), incurring a two-stroke penalty. This rule applies to any shot. Please speak to the Captain if you require further information.
Note: You may remove the inner part of the golf hole if required before putting.
Golf Etiquette Basics – Good golf practices.
• Play at a reasonable pace (keep up with the group in front).
• Play ‘Ready Golf’ (be ready to play your shot if the player farther away faces a challenging shot and is taking time to assess their options).
• Pay attention to the rules as they are laid out and administered by the R&A and the USGA.
• Ensure you empty the cup, smooth the greens, and replace the flag after putting out.
• Where possible, allow the winner of the previous hole tee off first at the next tee.
• Ensure you recorded your playing partners score correctly on the card (plus your own).
• Respect any local rules and regulations of the course you are playing. Golf Etiquette Basics – (When another player is about to hit their ball).
• Do not move or talk while someone in your group is hitting the ball (or about to hit).
• Do not rummage about with your equipment or make any unnecessary noise or walk across the line of another player’s putt on the sand green.
• Do not stand in line with a player’s putt, either behind the cup or behind the player, stand to the side.
• Do not play your shots until the group in front of you is well out of range.
• Do not hold up other players.
Competitions Starting Times.
• SATURDAYS (Mixed Field 18 Holes) - Nomination by 11:45 pm for 12:00 pm Tee time.
• WEDNESDAYS Scroungers (Mixed Field 9 Holes – no handicap required) - Nominations by 1:45 pm for 2:00 pm Tee time.
